Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy 2 Diary

As a fan of director and writer Guillermo del Toro, and of Hellboy in general, I was so thrilled to come across this interview with him and the crew from AMC's "Shootout" show. In this video, del Toro shows us a glimpse of one of his intricately illustrated diaries -- in particular of his notes on Hellboy 2.

Here are some images of the diary and the transcript from the interview.

When I see you around, often you're accompanied by this little bible. That bible is not a prayer book...
Guillermo del Toro: No. It is in a way. (laughs)
But it's a beautiful leather-bound book and I'd be scared of carrying it around because I'd lose it.
del Toro: I've lost it many times.
You have?
del Toro: Yes, but I have several of them. I bought seven of them which should last me a lifetime. I draw concepts, for example, on Hellboy the moment I started on the second Hellboy I color coded the movie. I know what the color code is. I code the color and the light, sometime in contrast. And then we have the whole movie on this little page.

del Toro: And I started doing concepts for creatures in the movie.

That's beautiful. You have wonderful handwriting in addition too. Now there's nothing on that book that says "Copyright".. (laughs)

del Toro: No. But it's like a scrapbook also. I give it drawings and annotations of the day, personal annotations. And it's a book I do for myself, but my idea is when I die I'll leave it to my daughters, the books to my daughters, and they'll have a hint of how deranged their father really was.
