WonderCon 2008 Recap
Feb. 26th, 2008 04:26 pm
Going to WonderCon 2008 in San Francisco on Feb. 22-24 was a kick. Not only did I get to see the usual droids, stormtroopers, costumed fans and my favorite comic book artists and writers, but I got to participate in my own panel for my book You Can Draw: Star Wars!

After wandering the con for most of Friday, I was thrilled to hang out with my buddies from The 501st Legion (and Terri, Tom, Katie and Ryan) for dinner where I managed to gawk at snails, eat dim sum and play with Star Wars toys!

On Saturday, myself on You Can Draw: Star Wars book illustrator Tom Hodges, along with Starwars.com artist Katie Cook, entertained fans and beginner artists with tutorials on how to draw banthas, stormtroopers, Yoda, Anakin and Darth Maul. Elvis Trooper stopped by for a few tips as well!

Later, I stopped by the R2-D2 Builders panel on how you can make your own astromech. But mostly, I was thrilled that a few R2-D2 units wanted to say hello to one fan interested in sending a rather important message and of course Kate ended up flirting with R2 as well. ;-)
The big bang for Star Wars fans this year was our Lucasfilm presentation complete with a Star Wars: The Clone Wars interview with Supervising Director Dave Filoni and Producer Catherine Winder, updates on the upcoming LucasArts game The Force Unleashed, and news about Celebration Japan! Check out the entire presentation here:

The Starwars.com team also wandered around looking for the coolest Star Wars stuff spotted in comic bins and toy shleves, while spotting not only our friends in the 501st Legion, San Francisco Fan Force and the Rebel Legion, but also fans decked out in costumes from the Star Wars galaxy and beyond.
