Opening PANDORA's Music Box
Apr. 10th, 2007 11:41 amI'm always looking for a new online radio experience so I can discover new music as I push hot pixels across a stove all day. For years I just went to Shoutcast.com to find a radio station that just played techno, or old jazz or indie tunes. And I loved it. Still do.
But after one of the IT guys here at Lucasfilm suggest I check out Pandora.com, I'm more addicted to that experience. As the self-proclaimed Music Genome Project, Pandora works a bit like an organic radio DJ in the sense that you pick a band you like such as Cocteau Twins or Bauhaus or Nine Inch Nails, and after it plays a couple of songs from that selected band it searches for other bands in that genre or similar to that band to play. You rate it on whether or not it hit the mark or went way off base and it learns from your suggestions and ratings.
So far the Nine Inch Nails station I made is a bit all over the place, but Cocteau Twins was dead on and I've discovered new bands like Courtney Tidewell and The Meeting Places that I really dig.
So if you're bored with your current online radio stations, try this out and see if it works: Pandora.com
