I'm proud to be a geek. Ever since I got my first rock tumbler kit and programmed BASIC challenges located in the back of Ranger Rick magazine, I knew I was not going to be like the "other" kids.

I grew up watching Star Wars, "Doctor Who," "Star Trek," "Battlestar Galactica," "G-Force," "Battle of the Planets" and "Red Dwarf." And half of my Halloween costumes reflected that. I had my tween first kiss over a game of Dungeons & Dragons. My first date was seeing War Games. And my first thrill of winning came from a Ms. Pac-Man tournament. Heck, my college boyfriend took me to a 2600 Meeting on our first date.

So yeah, I'm a geek.

And when I found out about this graph, I couldn't help but wonder where exactly did I fall?
The Geek Hierarchy

I look at that grid see myself everywhere. Sure I'm an anime fan who needs subtitles, but I'm also a fan fic writer. And I'm obviously a comic book fan, but does that make me less geeky than admitting I'm vaguely connected to the SCA? (And by vaguely I mean I once dated a guy who designed chainmail dresses for the women who attended their elaborate war re-enactments. Okay, who am I kidding? -- I wore those dresses!)

Oddly enough Star Wars isn't mentioned by name on that grid. Unlike Trekkies, we have more than one of our own language -- Mando'a AND Huttese. But that's not listed as geeky. Maybe because it's too cool to be compared to Klingon. Right?

So as you look at the Geek Hierarchy, see how many times you could be listed and take into account, you're not alone. Not by a longshot!
