This fan video for Radiohead's song "Nude" -- made by James Houston -- shows old redundant hardware such as the Sinclair ZX Spectrum filling in for the Guitars (rhythm & lead), an Epson LX-81 Dot Matrix Printer playing percussion, HP Scanjet 3c as Bass Guitar and a Hard Drive array act as a collection of bad speakers for Vocals & FX.

Watching MTV's reality show "The Paper" makes me so glad I'm not in high school anymore. I was an editor at my high school newspaper, and I remember us all being passionate as editors and writers, but it was never this bad.

Oh wait. Maybe it was. I have some pretty vivid repressed memories of being the Editor-in-Chief of my high school's literary magazine only to have everyone quit two months in. I ended up gathering all the content, editing it, laying it all out and selling all the ads. Not good times. I got it done, and it even won an award, but it was a good lesson in how not to be a total control freak -- which I was.

I can't help but have empathy for the nerdy Editor-in-Chief Amanda since it seems that the rest of the editors (both guys and girls) will use every Mean Girls tactic in the book (backstabbing, lying, rumor spreading, frenemies, etc.) to intimidate her every step of the way -- either out of jealously that they themselves aren't running the show, or most likely they simply don't like Amanda no matter what she does or doesn't do. Just like most of high school, success in group activities is all about popularity. It's heartbreaking.

I've spent a year writing a book about this very topic -- Girls Against Girls. Why are girls (and guys) so cruel to other girls? Girls can be BFF one year and enemies the next merely on a whim, or a misunderstanding, or just to look cool in front of other girls. While I researched this book and tried to give the best advice I wish I had been given, old high school memories of backstabbing, insecurity, anger, drama, hurt feelings, crushes, ego bruising, cruelty came rushing back. But on the flipside, so did my good memories of standing up for my beliefs, giving into my passion for writing, belonging to a fun group of misfits, and making friends who liked me "as is."

Yeah, high school sucks. It always has and it always will be. But guess what? It's not going to be your entire life. It's a blip on the screen of all the great stuff to come in life. Even though I know that as an adult, I still remember what it feels like to be treated like Enemy Number One in high school, and that's probably why "The Paper" strikes a nerve with me.

However, for the first time in a long time, MTV is showing teens as they really can be -- drama queens desperate for attention and acceptance. If I was the teacher mentor of the paper, I'd probably flunk them all merely on their lack of professionalism. Of course, they aren't adults yet. Teens are teens. They argue, throw tantrums, fight, cry, scream, whine, freakout, giggle inappropriately, act petty, complain, hold grudges, flirt, roll eyes and remain oblivious to the bigger picture.

Then again, I see adults do the same things every day. So maybe it's a glimpse into our own personality issues and flaws, not just a look inside the teen brain. And that's what can be shocking to see in a reality show -- actual reality.

Either way, it's scary, entertaining and addictive TV.
Watch at your own risk.
