Why Grrl.com will never win a Webby Award
Jan. 25th, 2006 11:36 amMy site, Grrl.com has been around before blogging, before everyone and their dog had a site, and before there was really any female presence online aside from porn. So you'd think in the 10 years I've had the site, running it out of pure love and passion for the online medium, that I would have won at least ONE friggin Webby Award by now.
But no. I haven't. Not because I don't deserve one. Not because of the fierce compeition I'd face. But because of one little fact. The Webby folks will only consider sites that have paid the entry fee of $245, or $95 if it's a personal site -- http://www.webbyawards.com/entries/
Either way, I could put the money to better use like rent, food or a charity.
I guess I just wish that awards like these were given to sites who don't have money burning holes in their pockets. Meh.
