Yea for Crafty Tardis -- [livejournal.com profile] crafty_tardis!

Even though I've been doing the Star Wars Craft Projects for starwars.com for a few years now, I have to admit I've been a die-hard fan of Dr. Who longer than Star Wars. *gasp*

It was the only sci-fi show on PBS we could get living in the middle of nowhere in Kansas, and it started my life-long fascination with all things sci-fi AND British. Tom Baker was my childhood crush long before Duran Duran! ;-)

So I'm so glad that I can combine my craft skills with my love for Dr. Who thanks to the Crafty Tardis LJ community! I am soooo making a Dalek pinata and a cardboard K-9!

Being inspired by [livejournal.com profile] crafty_tardis I decided it was about time I do a Star Wars Crafts LJ Community.
So behold -- [livejournal.com profile] starwarscrafts!

After writing endless Star Wars craft projects for Lucasfilm on starwars.com -- like the Bossk Bean Art portrait, Chewie Tissue Box Cozies, Yoda Felt Doll and a ton of others -- I figured I might as well start a group on LJ where we can all share our ideas!

Please join the community and post craft project ideas, questions, links you find to other Star Wars craftiness online or whatever! I want to make this a fun crafting community for all of us who can't help but geek out with a glue gun!

Available now from Del Rey Books is MAD About Star Wars -- a compilation of some of the best MAD Star Wars parodies of the past 30 years, collected and annotated by author Jonathan Bresman.

Here's an exclusive interview with Bresman about his work at MAD on the Star Wars tribute book as well as a video showing his brief stint working at ILM when he had to dress as Jar Jar being chased down by a truck driven by sound design guru Ben Burtt.

"We're not really actors, so in order to get the performance of true fear of being chased by a battle tank that Ben Burtt wanted, Ben decided at one point to get into a pickup truck and chase us. What was so particularly scary about that was, even though we didn't think he intended to run us over, Ben was so keen on getting the shot, he really wasn't watching as he drove, he really was leaning out the window of the driver's side door, looking through a camcorder, and pressing down on the gas pedal in the general direction of us.

So we spent a lot of time dodging the pickup truck and also -- there were scenes where we have to dive as if we're being run over by the battle tank. George has this herd of cattle up in the hills of Skywalker Ranch that tend to leave lots of fecal matter in, so there we were diving through cow poodoo, as it were, to help George get the shot. So, that was one of the stranger things I did for Lucasfilm."
